Biometric Data Policy

Last updated June 2026

What this covers

This Biometric Data Policy explains how Typortrait handles facial geometry, including for the purposes of the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA) and similar laws. It is our publicly available written policy for biometric data.

What we analyse and why

To turn your photo into a typographic portrait, our software analyses the geometry of the face in the image (the relative positions of facial features) so it can place the type along the contours of the face. This face-geometry analysis is the only biometric processing we perform, and its sole purpose is to render the artwork you requested.

We do not store a faceprint

The facial geometry is computed in memory at the moment of rendering and then discarded. We do not create, store, or maintain a biometric template or “faceprint,” and we do not use it to identify you or anyone else, for face recognition, for surveillance, or to train such systems.

Consent

Before we process your photo, we ask you to confirm that you understand this analysis and consent to it, and that you have the right to upload the image. We do not process the face until you give that consent, and you can withdraw it at any time.

Retention and destruction

Because we keep no biometric template, there is nothing biometric to retain beyond the moment of rendering. The source photo you upload is stored only to provide your preview and download and is automatically deleted after about 30 days, or sooner on request, and purged from our encrypted off-site backups as they rotate (within about 35 days). This is our written retention schedule and destruction guideline for biometric data.

No sale or disclosure

We do not sell, lease, trade, or otherwise profit from biometric data, and we do not disclose it to third parties except as strictly necessary to provide the Service or as required by law.

Canada (PIPEDA & Quebec Law 25)

For visitors in Canada, the facial-geometry analysis described here is performed transiently and immediately discarded: we do not create, store, or maintain a biometric database. We obtain your express consent before any analysis and honour withdrawal and deletion requests, consistent with PIPEDA and Quebec’s Law 25. You can withdraw consent and request deletion at any time via our data request page.

Availability

To reduce risk, the Service may be unavailable to visitors in certain locations (for example, Illinois). Where it is available, the protections above apply.

Your choices

You can withdraw consent and request deletion of your photo at any time via our data request page. See our Privacy Policy for the full picture.
